310 Golden Shore Street suite 400, Long Beach, CA, USA

Come and hear about local history firsthand from Evan Anderson Braude, a community advocate for many causes.

The Honorable Evan Anderson Braude’s career spanned public service, municipal governance, and community advocacy. A licensed California attorney, he previously served as Special Assistant City Attorney in Los Angeles, worked in the Office of the Secretary of Transportation in Washington, D.C., and represented the First District on the Long Beach City Council. Mr. Braude is a founding member of Bet Tzedek (House of Justice) Legal Services.

Throughout his career, he spearheaded tobacco legislation, anti-discrimination protections, and affordable housing initiatives, while serving in leadership roles across numerous nonprofit organizations. He served multiple terms as President of the Board of Directors of the Historical Society of Long Beach, reflecting his deep commitment to preserving our city’s institutional memory.

This public oral history program will capture and celebrate decades of leadership and community service. The evening will officially launch fundraising for the Anderson Braude Collection, a permanent archival collection housed at the HSLB. Through professional recording, processing, and preservation, this project will ensure that future generations — students, researchers, policymakers, and residents — have access to the firsthand accounts that illuminate Long Beach’s progress and challenges.

The Historical Society holds a special place in Mr. Braude’s heart. His involvement continued for more than 25 years. He not only entrusted us with his archival collection, but he has made transformative gifts that move the organization forward. Your attendance furthers this upward momentum at the HSLB while supporting Mr. Braude’s collection and fostering his legacy.

By purchasing a ticket, you acknowledge that photography and videography are part of the event. Recordings will be used for archival and promotional purposes.

Tickets are transferable, non-refundable.
